| | Can shoes be political? By Brian U. Tenorio Philippine Daily Inquirer April 17, 2009 Friday, Inquirer LifeStyle
I WAS IN A CAB IN BERLIN once with the taxi driver trying to guess where I was from. After listening to him speculate if I was Japanese, Chinese or even Singaporean, I said I was from Manila. He then suddenly looked very interested and sighed, “Aaaah, the Abu Sayyaf!?” And in the same breath he asked, “So how is the beautiful Imelda Marcos? (smiles) ... And her shoes?”

| | My black bombay at home in Marikina. sigh.... |
From hindsight, I realize that this was written a week or so before I finally decided to leave for the US and take my graduate studies there. Things are always clearer -- from hindsight. I don't know why.
December 8th, 2007 I realize how difficult it is to start something. While most things we stumble into, or just happen for no apparent reason (to us), most artistic endeavours need more than just will and savvy. I can outline three mechanisms then that should help any individual begin his or her essay into creativity. 1. Start from focusing on pain, hunger, thirst, need, desire. 2. Begin with a question. The answer, the possibility of, or how to arrive to one, are not as important yet. The question is the reason, and the inquiry is the process. Sometimes, the experience of inquiring so is an answer. 3. And the last, challenge the currently deemed absolute. The realization of every good thought in this world is just a matter of time. | | Taken at Figura, Marikina (www.philippineshoes.com) |
The Fire Snake is like a meteor in the sky, brilliant and alive. With spellbinding eloquence, the Snake converses with conviction on a broad range of topics, but realizes that good conversation lies as much in the listening as the talking. The Snake does both very well, raising communication to a very high and elegant art. People love to be in the company of this very graceful Fire Snake, who is always pleasant, provocative, humorous, and quick witted. With split second reflexes, they are constantly conceiving new ideas and coming up with new schemes. This entrepreneurial spirit makes headlines and the Fire Snake is much admired. Because of their ambition, perseverance, and infinite patience, and wise financial moves made early in life, their fortunes grow steadily. By the time middle age arrives, financial fortune is truly theirs. Relationships follow the same path, through faithfulness, perseverance, and willingness to make relationships really work, the future is always bright. This website is aligned with our efforts to streamline our information, include current and future collections, while at the same time, make provisions for our expansion into the US. Of course, this beta version may still have a few bugs to it, we shall appreciate your comments and feedback on how you find our new site. In the next few months, as our efforts progress and develop, we shall be, again, developing www.tenorio.asia (the beta version) to accommodate this expansion (please wait for news about that!). I feel very happy too to launch the beta version of the site on this doubly auspicious day, 11/11 2008, my mother’s birthday. (Happy Birthday, Mommy, from Brian & Christine!) Again, thank you for your support in bringing Philippine-made designer shoes to more places in the world. Best regards, Brian Tenorio PS Be sure to sign up in our mailing list. The phrase "Filipino Dream" appears everywhere actually, whether online or in print. But what is it really as compared to The American Dream?
B in New York I just found out tonight:
Manhattan 88 sq km Metro Manila area is 636 sq km
whoah. that confirms what i've been feeling all the time... maybe it's because I haven't really walked Metro Manila from end to end, block per block.
B From a YM conversation with a friend: Brian: in new york lang its more prevalent Brian: but we have better cases of resourcefullnes in manila Brian: in new york kasi fashion has to be bought-- in manila, puedeng ipatahi ... and that allows room for creativity and detail-personalization | | This list does not include though greetings in YM and Multiply and through e-mail and SMS. I couldn't post them ALL to thank them as a group, or write them all individually, but in any case, I am very thankful for the thoughtfulness and I am missing you all here from my small corner in New York.
In a Marikina State of Mind,
Brian |
